Accessing something New!

Microsoft Access is a tool that I have never had exposure to in the workplace. I've always just used the basic suite applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. However, going through 2.6.3 Tour of Access, really opened my eyes to additional possibilities I am excited to play with and explore in my day-to-day work that would allow me to work smarter, not harder. Plus, I finally want to find ways to move away from the "poor man's database" - Excel!

I've used Excel for all kinds of things that it was not designed for. Haha! I've had to just lean into what I knew to make things work. I am glad that this class is pushing my boundaries and opening up new opportunities for me to build bigger and better skills.

Access provides the ability to store data in a variety of tables and queries, which makes formatting and organization of your information a breeze. Conveniently, this application can also house customized Forms and Reports that allow you to quickly and easily pull larger chunks of data from within the same database.

  1. I'm elated 2.6.3 Tour of [Microsoft] Access showed you better tools (e.g. table, query, form, report) to manage data instead of a spreadsheet program such Microsoft Excel :-)

After you finish the required Chapters of LabSim for IS101, you should do Chapter 7 Microsoft Access, which will not only show you what tables, queries, forms, and reports can do but will also help you prepare for the MOS Access certification exam ^_^

  3. I'm not super familiar with Microsoft Access but your point of view has made me realize that I should be! I am all about convenience, so if Access helps provide this I'm more than happy to learn about it.

  4. Microsoft Access is one of the programs that I'm least familiar with out of all the ones we've spoken about this semester. I've tried to teach myself to use it but haven't gotten far. I hope there's a lesson later in the semester that goes a little deeper and helps make it more familiar.

  6. Access was amazing to learn. I usually use Excel but I liked the capabilities this system has to offer.
